A letter to Pope Francis regarding his upcoming visit to the United States was crafted by Catholic Workers and members of our group, Friends of Franz. A number of us went to Austria in 2007 to celebrate the beatification of Franz Jagerstatter, an Austrian Catholic family man who knew his fate when he refused to cooperate with the Nazis in 1943. Since our return we have been active in nonviolent means of communication to bring to light the crimes of our own United States government.
If you are a Catholic or of another Christian denomination and wish to sign on, please read our letter and respond. On September 12, 2015, this letter will be published in National Catholic Reporter, the largest lay Catholic publication in the United States. You need not assist us financially but if you can, it would be good for the cost is $2800. The deadline to sign is August 11.
