“We must never grow weary of working to support the principal international legal instruments of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, including the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.” –Pope Francis, Nagasaki, November 24, 2019
The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) put together this briefing note to explain the history of the Catholic Church’s support of the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This treaty was voted for by 122 countries, but the United States and other nuclear-holding countries did not vote at all.
We hope this information will be helpful in your advocacy for an end to nuclear weapons. Download the briefing note here.
Thank you for making this so conveniently available.
