The former Secretary General of Pax Christi International, Étienne De Jonghe, has been nominated for the 2019 Public Peace Prize. This peace prize is co-sponsored by our sister organizations in Canada, Pax Christi Montreal and Pax Christi Toronto.

Étienne’s life was oriented towards peace education, reconciliation through dialogue and cooperation, while European countries were (and a Europe) immersed in the uncertainties of the cold war. Nowadays, he continues its Christian and international commitment in an era of populism, authoritarianism by contributing to the formation of networks of organizations that mobilize for pluralist democracy, demilitarization, disarmament, reconciliation, the defense of communities affected by violent conflict and the extracting industries of natural resources in Europe, Africa and Latin America.
