Dear Companions on the Journey,

How does one begin to say “Thank you”? At times, words are inadequate in conveying the depth of gratitude one wants to communicate with these two simple words. Yes, it is from a full heart that this message of thanks comes to you.

Although we have not yet read through all of the evaluations, it appears that most participants were pleased with our 40th Anniversary Conference.  Following the Conference, the National Council met with the PCUSA staff.  There was an energetic spirit throughout our conversations as we looked at the critical issues pertinent to the growth and expansion the Pax Christi USA.

On Thursday, I found myself back at the office, in the midst of needing to respond to hundreds of e-mails! Yet, this letter is a priority – to thank each of you who attended the Conference for your attendance and enthusiastic participation.

It appears that close to two hundred persons gathered for both serious reflection and reconnecting with each other. We have heard great comments about the plenary speakers, break-out workshops, the prayer ritual at Dr. King’s Memorial, and our Sunday liturgy.  I am blessed and graced to know that because of your participation PCUSA has the potential to develop into a viable anti-racist, multicultural Catholic peace with justice movement, “embracing the future with confidence and hope.”

Many of you know that we took up an offering during Sunday’s liturgy to help assist us with the Conference expenses.  I am pleased to share that PCUSA received $9,914.77. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! With your monetary contributions, most expenses related to the Conference were met.

In closing, in the 19th century, Saint Julie Billiart, the first “SNDdeN,” often spoke of having confidence in the good God. She wrote at that time:

Have very, very great confidence, based on the goodness of God. Take risks, go on, full of good faith.”

We can do no less in this 21st century of PCUSA.

Gratitude and Blessings to each of you,

Sister Patricia Chappell SNDdeN
Executive Director, PCUSA
