From the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns
In late November, representatives from governments, international organizations and civil society will gather in Durban, South Africa for the United Nations Climate Change Conference. The conference will focus on the implementation of the Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, as well as the 2007 Bali Action Plan and the 2010 Cancun Agreements. Sr. Ann Braudis, MM, a staff member with the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, will attend.
Send a message to the U.S. delegation: The National Council of Churches has postcards available to send to President Obama, urging him to ensure that the U.S. plays a positive role at the meeting. The president must:
- Secure a fair, ambitious and binding agreement
- Ensure adaptation assistance for the most vulnerable around the world
- Guarantee climate justice for all
