The following is a special request from the Pax Christi New England Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, a dedicated group that has been working tirelessly on this critical issue. Pax Christi USA encourages all members to respond to the survey link below, and to share it with others.
As presenters of the January 27, 2024 Pax Christi Massachusetts virtual forum, Building a World without Nuclear Weapons, with Marie Dennis, Dr. Ira Helfand, and Archbishop John Wester, we write to you now on behalf of the Pax Christi New England Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (PCAN), a broader effort which grew out of that project.
In collaboration with the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development (DPIHD), which “has the task of promoting the human person and the God-given dignity of all, together with human rights, health, justice and peace” [Praedicate Evangelium Art, 163], including nuclear and conventional disarmament, we are collecting messages from North American Catholics and others regarding nuclear weapons and best practices to abolish them.
We invite you, as a member of Pax Christi USA, to use this link complete and submit this survey by April 17, 2025. We also ask that you share the survey with members of your local and state Pax Christi chapters and your local parish(es), to be completed and submitted by the same date. (We’ve also asked all bishops to complete and submit the survey themselves; to share it with all parishes in their dioceses; and to ask their pastors to take the survey and distribute it to their parishioners, to be completed and submitted by the same date). We include a suggested parish bulletin template for your use at the end of this message.

We’ll share the data we collect with the DPIHD for their use during the Jubilee Year of 2025, also the 80th anniversary year of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
We believe that such messages will further our Campaign’s goals to:
- amplify Pope Francis’ teachings on the abolition of nuclear weapons
- build upon Archbishop John C. Wester’s groundbreaking 2022 pastoral letter, Living in the Light of Christ’s Peace: A Conversation Toward Nuclear Disarmament
- help advocates to promote these teachings among Catholic hierarchy, laity, and beyond
- generate momentum to achieve a world without nuclear weapons by 2030.
Thank you for joining us in this urgent campaign of hope and love.
Wishing you the Peace of Christ,
Mike Moran, Pax Christi Massachusetts
Denny Dreher, Pax Christi Maine

We have a political Leader with money and power as his god. The most dangerous situation that anyone could imagine. He is light years away from eliminating nuclear weapons.
He doesn’t believe in climate change. He doesn’t believe in human dignity. He’s a guy with his hand on a nuclear trigger. And to top it off everyone is afraid of his deadly Power.
What I would like to know is how Nuclear Weapons are going to be dismantled in the USA or anywhere else for that matter.
Climate Change will have its own agenda . It’s slower that a Nuclear Holocaust but very through.
I believe that electing a moral human being is number one priority.
