  1. This is a time wherein each follower of the Christ is called to live the faith.

    Only love can overcome hate.

Let us each embrace and take up our cross and follow the footsteps of Jesus, even up to Golgotha.

    Yours in Christ.

  2. The outcome of our nauseating election cycle now forces us to be painfully sincere with ourselves. Fr. Joe honestly recognizes the moral fortitude of the Lutheran, not Catholic, clerics who saw evil for what it was early on in 1930s Germany and risked everything in doing so. He likewise directs our thoughts to St Paul and Saint Francis of Assisi who, unlike our politicians, will never deceive us. Sadly and tragically, this time around, we chose to ignore the constant pleas of a secular Jew, an independent senator, who warned openly and sternly that young Americans have a deep sense of justice, in spite of their much criticized sexual mores by hypocritical adults, and can not and will not support a party that stands for social justice at home and then cynically aids and abets the murder of women and children in Palestine.

  3. I needed to be reminded of the Confessing Church and Bonhoffer’s example of the Cost of Discipleship. May we, as a community, be up to the task as we follow John Lewis by making GOOD TROUBLE.

  4. Father Nangle, as always I look forward to your commentary. I am reminded of a song by a well known poet “It’s not dark yet but it’s getting there. I will have to go with brother Francis’ solution. Yes, we need to thoroughly consider his prayer, if we are ever to find peace on Earth. 🙏🙏🙏

  5. Dear Fr Joe, you said it all and your words are worth rereading again and again. We were formed for the highest ideals and you help us remember.

  6. The election of the 47th president was statistically narrow in the polular vote, though substantial because of the Electoral College. Apathy among countless eligible voters, ignorance of truth widespread, disinformation from populists, spiteful resentment of a perceived elitist Democratic party, indifference to the climate crisis, fear of immigrants and people of different ethnicity, and anxiety over high prices and lack of opportunity–all drove millions astray from the path of trust and willingness to work with a less than perfect collection of candidates. Humble recognition that all err often when faith is lacking moves me to compassion for my fellows and prayer for God’s light and other gifts of good citizenship. Let peace in America and the world begin in me.
