On June 27, St. Francis of Assisi parish in New York City hosted an evening of interfaith prayers for peace in the Holy Land. After a welcome from the pastor, Fr. Joseph Juracek, OFM, prayers were offered by Imam Khabir John McGeehan and Dr. Sarah Sayeed (Muslim), Rev. T.K. Nakagaki (Buddhist), Rabbi Miriam Herscher and Cantor Ayelet Porzecanski (Jewish), M.S. Ravi VAidyanaat Sivachariar (Hindu), and Rev. Adam Bucko and Pax Christi International board member and UN representative Mary Yelenick (Christian). A moment of silence was introduced by Marc Greenberg. Music was provided by Meredith Augustin of the parish.

Rosemarie Pace of Pax Christi New York State reported that it was a beautiful, uplifting experience at a time when we so desperately need it. She posted additional photos here on Pax Christi New York State’s Facebook page.

Watch Mary Yelenick’s reflection in the video here (at the 44:47 mark).
