Pax Christi USA, along with the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative and Casa Esther Catholic Worker, is excited to offer a new online series this fall focused on nonviolence and care for creation.

This series, Called to Care, will make the vital link — yet to be explored in depth — between violence and the climate crisis, and will explore why nonviolent strategies are the only way to achieve sustainable ecological integrity.

These conversations are scheduled to take place virtually at 7:00 PM ET every Monday throughout the month of October, and will explore the interconnected relationship between violence and the ecological crisis. Each session will last 90 minutes and will include a Q&A segment.

Registration is open to university students and staff, and live participation is strongly encouraged.

>>If you are not a student, you can register (see link below) to receive the link to watch the video of the class after the class has been presented.

  • October 9: The multifaceted nature and realities of environmental violence
  • October 16: The ecological impact of military spending and war
  • October 23: Young Catholic climate activists on the frontlines of advancing nonviolence
  • October 30: Mobilizing for a Laudato Si and nonviolent future: Hope for radical ecological conversion and collective liberation

To utilize this series:

Class use: Recordings of each session will be available the following week, with discussion/essay questions inserted after each speaker presentation. The Q&A segments will be omitted from the recordings, bringing the length to under an hour. Furthermore, you can easily select a particular 20 minute presentation with specific discussion questions.

Extra credit project: When classroom use is not practical, offering the series as an extra credit project is a great option. This series will be an invaluable education experience for your students!

There is no cost to you, your school or your students for this series. REGISTER HERE.

Use this link to register, to find real time updates on the series, and to view the list of confirmed speakers.

This is the second series of online presentations on Gospel nonviolence for students. Use this link to visit the Casa Esther Catholic Worker’s website to learn about the 2022 series.

  1. the first reading today is about Joseph in Egypt, providing for people in the great famine. We must follow this model, instead of sending bombs, especially cluster bombs which will maim, kill and mutilate farmers and children for decades to come. We need to stop using war as any kind of tool for solving human problems.
