Bishop Stowe will focus on Pope Francis and his consistent call to the church and the entire world to Gospel nonviolence. In one of his great documents, Fratelli Tutti, (“On fraternity and social friendship,” published on October 3, 2020), the Holy Father reflects on the Good Samaritan parable as a way to live—with utmost concern and compassion for those in need, for those who are suffering and those who are poor. He calls each of us to have “a heart open to the whole world,” to develop “a better kind of politics” aimed at serving the whole human race, and to practice “proactive peacemaking,” so that we might abolish war itself, the death penalty, poverty, and violence.
