Since taking office, the Biden administration has expelled more than 26,000 Haitian migrants, placing a tremendous burden on that country’s fragile infrastructure. No other president has removed so many Haitians in such a short period of time.

Pax Christi USA supports the efforts led by the Quixote Center to raise awareness of and respond to the administration’s forced removal of Haitian refugees, a decision that, as the Quixote Center writes, “not only denies refugees an opportunity to seek humanitarian relief but is contributing to the instability in [Haiti]. These removals are a violation of the principle of non-refoulement, which is fundamental to the government’s international obligations as well as domestic law. Further, these removals directly contradict a recent court order requiring [the Biden] administration to provide credible fear interviews prior to Title 42 expulsions.”

Pax Christi USA has a long history of solidarity with the people of Haiti; we encourage our members to sign the Quixote Center’s petition to President Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and to donate to cover the costs of an advertisement in the Hill newspaper with the same message.
