As part of the inter-generational focus for the 50th anniversary of Pax Christi USA, Ryan Di Corpo and Isaac Chandler have organized a series of video interviews with past recipients of the annual Pax Christi USA Teacher of Peace award.
The third video is with Marie Dennis, Pax Christi USA’s 2022 Teacher of Peace.
Marie was the clear choice for Teacher of Peace 2022, in this 50th anniversary year for Pax Christi USA, as she is one of the most well-recognized and most committed members of the movement. She has served in Pax Christi leadership at the local, national and International level, most recently serving as co-president of Pax Christi International from 2007-2019. She is the chair of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative and is senior adviser to the Secretary General of Pax Christi International, and has served on multiple capacities, from the board of the Washington Office on Latin America to the White House Task Force on Global Poverty and Development (during the Obama administration) to the Vatican’s COVID-19 Commission, to name only a few.
Marie was the director of the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns for many years, and has extensive experience as a writer, speaker and organizer. She is co-founder and long-time member of the Assisi Community in Washington, DC, and is the mother of six and grandmother of nine.
She shared with Isaac and Ryan a bit about her introduction to Pax Christi (thanks to Bishop Walter Sullivan!) and her hopes for the future of the peace movement.
This is such a beautiful and inspiring interview. Thank you Isaac and Ryan for your hard work and to you Marie for continuing to be a such a wonderful leader. You speak eloquently and with deep love for all humankind. You challenge us to be hopeful even in these difficult times. We are so blessed to have you as our 2022 Teacher of Peace. May God bless and keep you always.
Congratulations, dear Marie! You bring light to our world and we are so grateful for the inspiration & hope you give us!🌻❤️
