Santa Fe’s Archbishop John Wester has a special message for our supporters.
“A light will shine on us this day: the Lord is born for us.”
As we approach the sacred season of Advent, our hearts turn to the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. His message of love, forgiveness and nonviolence continues to inspire us today.
As I said almost three years ago in my pastoral letter Living in the Light of Christ’s Peace, we can no longer deny or ignore the extremely dangerous predicament of our human family. So this Christmas I ask for your generous support to continue the critical peace work of Pax Christi USA.
In a world often marked by conflict, division and injustice, Pax Christi USA remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting peace with justice. Through advocacy, education and community building efforts, it strives to create a more just and equitable society.
One of my favorite lines in the beloved Christmas carol “Silent Night” tells of shepherds quaking “at the sight.” Their reverence in the presence of divinity rightly moves them.
And what truly moves me are people like you who help us widen the pathway of peace.
And yet, there is more to do.
Your gift will enable us to continue to:
- Advocate for disarmament: Promote policies and influence leaders in order to reduce the risk of nuclear war and advance global peace. Almost 80 years after the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, whether in Ukraine or Palestine, we know there is another way!
- Support grassroots peace initiatives: Empower local communities to address these and other issues on a local level. Our field organizer and program coordinator both work hard to extend the reach of your gifts.
- Educate the public: Develop a serious national conversation about nuclear disarmament and its real threat to humanity and the planet. Our communications – from social media posts to video conferences – keep our members informed and engaged.
- Identify emerging leaders: Our young adult group (the Pax Christi Young Adult Caucus, PCYAC) continues to grow and explore new ways to influence and inspire all ages.
- Provide spiritual guidance: We cannot underestimate the role of prayer and reflection in promoting peace. By deepening our spiritual lives, we can develop the inner strength and wisdom we need. Our Peace Pairs program, which will launch its fourth cohort in 2025, exemplifies our commitment to living out Prayer-Study-Action.
Your gift, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference in the lives of countless people. Together, we can build a world that is more just, peaceful and compassionate.
As we watch divisiveness and alienation grow, your generosity empowers us to create and strengthen communities grounded in love, justice and nonviolent resistance. Together, we can build a lasting peace within our church and beyond. Please make a gift today: Use this link to give safely and securely online.
Your generosity is invaluable. Thank you for being a supporter and a partner in our mission for peace. As we enter our 53rd year, can you invest $50, $250, $500, or more to seed our work for new generations and the next 53 years of peacemaking?
As Pope Francis said last year, “Let us make nonviolence, both in daily life and in international relations, a guide for our actions.”
May the blessings of the Advent/Christmas season guide your actions and quake a powerful but holy reverence in you.
In the peace of Christ,
+John C. Wester
