“Give yourself to the service of life, not the work of death. Violence is the enemy of justice. Only peace can lead the way to true justice.” – Pope John Paul II, September 29, 1979

For two thousand years, many Christians have chosen to conscientiously object and refuse to participate in war and the taking of other human lives; and therefore, they have given themselves to the service of life rather than death. Today, people of the Christian faith as well as many other belief systems continue this tradition.

Conscientious objectors are those who, motivated by their conscience, hold a sincere conviction to not participate in war.

  1. What about the Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund that will be reintroduced by Representative John Lewis? Wouldn’t if be great if we could pay taxes without such a heavy heart.

    1. Still today, there is great need to push for this legislation and HR 1111 as well.

  2. Thanks to the parish priest from NY state (?) whose action to not collect $$ for the archdiocese of the US military was reported in NCR today (11/8/13), which then led us to the 2 websites of CAM and Pax Christi. Thank you! (I hope to use some of your resources when they pass the collection basket this weekend! Beti (And I hope to share these with our bishop here in CA.)

  3. In your brochure Conscientious Objection and Catholic Teaching, the contact info for The Military Law Task Force is outdated.

The correct info (May 2014) is:
Military Law Task Force of the National Lawyers Guild
    Phone: 619-463-2369
    Email: email@nlgmltf.org
    Website: http://www.nlgmltf.org

    Thank you for listing us.

  4. As Rev. Emmanuel Charles McCarthy writes:
“The issue of whether Jesus teaches by word and deed a Way to Nonviolent Love of friends and enemies is settled. He does! All attempts today to justify violence from the life of Jesus or His teachings are devoid of spiritual and intellectual merit. That is not opinion, that is fact.”

  5. What about the Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund. I DO NOT WANT MY TAXES to go for any war or related war endeavor. I have asked my tax accountant and she says I need to have a lawyer and probably pursue undervConscientious toon guidelines
