Pax Christi USA joined 162 other Catholic organizations inviting our bishops to unite around a regional response to migration. The letter highlights 3 three areas of great urgency and opportunity: 1) Responding humanely to increased migration; 2) Putting immigrants in the U.S. on a pathway to citizenship; and 3) Addressing the underlying conditions that force people to migrate.

The letter begins:

We are Catholic organizations from the U.S., Mexico, and Central America, working to protect
migrants and improve life in the communities they are fleeing. We write to urge you to hear the
cries of our brothers and sisters on the move and respond with bold leadership. This summer and
fall, we have the best opportunity in a generation to make progress on core Catholic migration
priorities. We need your pastoral and moral leadership to meet this moment.

The promise by a new U.S. Administration to address the root causes of migration, treat migrants
humanely, and put immigrants who’ve lived in the U.S. for years, and in many cases decades, on
a path to citizenship is a unique opportunity to relieve pain and suffering too long endured. This
moment requires a whole Church response that is regional, united, and robust.

  1. Thank you to all who have signed this letter to the Bishops. Their united voice can have an influence at the administrative and political level and also provide inspiration to the leadership at the local parish level. This, of course, filters down to individual parishioners. This call for vocal and active participation by our Bishops should be echoed to our elected leaders. As we attempt to hold onto lessons learned during the pandemic, may we remind each other of our responsibilities to our brothers and sisters–any and every human being–and to all of creation. Peace.

  2. Thank you to all the Bishops who have been speaking out and assisting migrants!
