Here’s more information on the booklet and a little preview.

Entitled, “I Say to You: WATCH!” Reflections for Advent & Christmas 2020, this year’s Advent booklet features reflections for Advent Sundays, Christmas and Epiphany by Martha Hennessy, granddaughter of Dorothy Day, co-founder of the Catholic Worker movement, with co-authors Vickie Machado, Amy Finn-Schultz, Isaac Chandler and Michelle Sherman offering weekday reflections throughout the season.

For her Christmas Day reflection, Hennessy writes:

I love these words of Dorothy Day: ‘I’m so glad that Jesus was born in a stable. Because my soul is so much like a stable. It is so poor and unsatisfactory because of guilt, falsehoods, inadequacies and sin. Yet I believe if Jesus can be born in a stable, maybe He can also be born in me.’ What a joy it is to know that there is always hope for any of us! The saints give us encouragement in our daily lives. The words of Scripture are like love poems, such beauty, inspiration, and especially on this day when Christ comes to dwell among us. The celebration is boundless and endless…”

From the introduction, by Pax Christi USA Executive Director Johnny Zokovitch:

“This past year has left many of us wrung out, beaten down, exhausted — and yet Mark cries out to us on the first Sunday of Advent: ‘Be alert! Watch!’ Our eyes may be heavy, our hearts weary, our spirits frayed, and yet Mark implores us not to be caught sleeping… In the days ahead, I hope that these reflections may accompany you, and, in reading and reflecting on them together throughout the season, we may in some small way feel connected to one another, looking together for the light that Mary carries, that Joseph protects, that one day soon will radiate out from Bethlehem and kindle our spirits once again.”

Excellent for individual reflection and prayer or in small groups from the First Sunday of Advent through Epiphany Sunday, this booklet is available in both a hard-copy print version or as an electronic download for your e-reader.
