Earlier today, the president visited St. John Paul II Shrine in Washington, D.C., his second photo op at a church in the DC-area in two days. Yesterday, protesters were tear-gassed and cleared so that the president could walk to St. John’s Episcopal Church where he held up a bible and had his picture taken.
For today’s visit, several hundred people turned out to witness for peace and racial justice as a counter to the president’s visit to the shrine. Pax Christi USA members and staff joined with many of our partner organizations to speak up against the president’s words, tone and policies that stand in direct opposition to the gospel of Jesus. The peaceful protest stated unequivocally that #BlackLivesMatter and that we are committed to peace and justice.
