Pax Christi USA wishes to congratulate Sr. Patricia Chappell, SNDdeN, former executive director of Pax Christi USA on being announced as the recipient of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious 2020 Outstanding Leadership Award.

“Patricia has spent nearly 30 years committed to anti-racism training and dismantling white privilege, where she modeled inclusivity and witnessed to the truth of the dignity of the human person,” stated the LCWR press release.

The release included reference to her tenure as Pax Christi USA’s Executive Director during which she “promoted a spirituality of nonviolence and asked each bishop in the United States to affirm active nonviolence as a core Christian principle.”

“On behalf of Pax Christi USA, I want to extend our congratulations to Sr. Patty on being recognized by LCWR for her leadership,” stated Robert Shine, Pax Christi USA National Council Chair. “We at Pax Christi USA were the beneficiaries of her help in deepening our commitment to becoming an anti-racist movement witnessing to the peace of Christ in the church and in the world.”

“Sr. Patty is a woman who has passion in her soul but compassion in her heart,” stated Sr. Anne-Louise Nadeau, SNDdeN, a long-time colleague of Sr. Chappell and Pax Christi USA’s Program Director.

Sr. Chappell became the Executive Director of Pax Christi USA in October 2011 and left in May 2019 when she was elected to the leadership team of the East-West unit of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She will be honored at LCWR’s assembly in Dallas later this year.
