International Day of Peace/Prayer for Peace |
Each year Pax Christi International Member Organizations joins thousands of other organizations worldwide to mark the UN International Day of Peace, September 21, also known as an International Day of Prayer for Peace. This initiative, launched by the World Council of Churches as part of its Decade to Overcome Violence (2001-2010), calls on churches and communities all over the world to arrange services or vigils on September 21. (September 21 falls on a Monday this year; vigils and observances can also be planned for September 20 or incorporated into Sunday services on that date.)
This year, the United Nations will use this important day to ask Governments and citizens of the world to focus on the important issues of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. As part of Pax Christi USA's campaign, "A New Moment for Nuclear Disarmament," we are asking individuals, local groups, campus and high school chapters, parishes, religious communities and all people of faith to observe this important day in prayer and action.
